What the casting process usually looks like
Based on how every recent season has run, expect roughly this shape:
- Online application: a written form covering your background, why you want in, and your renovation experience (or delightful lack of it).
- Video submission: a self-shot video, essentially an audition tape, where personality tends to matter as much as tiling skill.
- Interviews and screen tests: shortlisted applicants get called in, often multiple rounds, plus the standard reality TV battery of psych evaluations and background checks.
- Finance and reno vetting: production wants to know you can actually fund your share of the build and won’t fold under the show’s famously brutal deadlines.
What producers are actually looking for
Renovation experience helps, but it’s not the deciding factor. Every season has proven that a strong, telegenic pair with genuine chemistry (or genuine tension) will beat a technically gifted but flat couple every time.
