It’s rumpus and laundry week on The Block, which means five teams are building rooms dedicated to lounging and folding while doing absolutely neither themselves. Off-screen, the conversation has drifted to the two things that actually matter this close to the end: the money, and who is still talking to whom.
What the Mastheads Ran Today
The auction jitters have officially arrived. New Idea asked the teams how they are feeling with sale day roughly five weeks out, and the answers were refreshingly un-media-trained. Rick admitted every team could walk away with nothing, adding that “the market’s scary at the moment.” Lisa and Rosco say they have no regrets either way (and joked they might just move in for a few months if it doesn’t sell), while Sev called watching two 2025 houses pass in “heart-wrenching.” Nobody has a confirmed auction date yet, which is extremely on brand.
Meanwhile, the post-show group chat has a headcount problem. Woman’s Day reports that four of the five couples turned up to Nine’s 2027 Upfronts in Sydney last week, with Chantel and Wyatt the conspicuous no-show. Rosco’s own tally, first given to Pedestrian.TV, was “four out of five houses are talking in the group chat.” Nine’s official line is that attendance was optional. The unnamed-insider line is considerably spicier. Either way, somebody at Nine is going to have a very delicate seating plan to draw up for auction night.
And the numbers people are still smiling. TV Blackbox’s Tuesday ratings had The Block on a national average audience of 1,103,000 and a reach of 1,939,000, more than double its nearest rival (also covered by TV Central). Rumpus rooms: apparently appointment television.
That’s today’s buzz. Back tomorrow with whatever the Mount Eliza rumour mill churns out next.
