Rumpus and laundry week is officially underway, though you wouldn’t know it from watching Monday’s episode, since barely anyone got near an actual rumpus room or laundry. Instead, day one delivered a luxury boat getaway, a tile stoush that ended with one contestant calling another “delusional”, and a supply-chain raid involving a roll of blue tape and every paver in Bunnings.
Key Moments Today
- ARGUMENTThe Freedom tile stoush boils over into a public shouting match, Jolene telling Tayla flatly: “That’s delusional, Tayla. She clearly can’t read a room.”
- DRAMAAdam and Jolene spend the day sipping beers on a $1.2 million Chery-sponsored yacht while their teammates handle the charity house meltdown without them.
- DISASTERFlooring Xtra’s crew sit idle on a special-delivery morning because no one finished their plywood, putting next week’s stairwell installs at real risk.
- RIDICULOUS PURCHASEChantel and Wyatt blue-tape every paver, plant and off-cut in Bunnings under House 2’s name, a full-store land grab dressed up as landscaping prep.
The real action is still out at the community challenge, where the two crisis-housing units are being tiled at two very different speeds. Unit 5, led by returning All-Stars Maddy and Charlotte with Chantel and Wyatt in tow, landed a full 1,200mm floor-to-ceiling tile approval after Charlotte went over supplier Beaumont’s head and called tiling crew the Cursios directly. Unit 4, worked by Lisa and Rosco and Rick and Tayla under Adam and Jolene’s captaincy, had asked for exactly the same thing a day earlier and been knocked back to a skirting tile only, a discrepancy nobody clocked until the 1,200mm slabs turned up on the wrong pallet downstairs with “Unit 5” written on the side.
That discovery detonated at Freedom, where Jolene, Lisa and Tayla walked in to find Chantel, Wyatt, Maddy and Charlotte already mid-shop. Tayla pushed hard for parity, arguing that if next door was tiling wall to wall then Unit 4 should too, while foreman Spence tried to hold the skirting-only line purely to save time. It spiralled fast into a full shouting match in the middle of a major sponsor’s showroom, with Jolene rounding on Tayla mid-argument: “That’s delusional, Tayla. She clearly can’t read a room.” By the time it wound down, Jolene had declared the whole team had “crumbled into pieces”, and half of them weren’t speaking to the other half.
Jolene’s timing didn’t help. She and Adam had spent much of the day on their kitchen-week winner’s getaway, a Chery-sponsored night aboard a brand new Beneteau at Mornington Marina, dinner at Martha’s Table and a $10,000 Arnott’s bonus for the win, only to sail back into the Freedom stoush the moment she hit dry land. On-site, the build problems kept stacking up regardless: Flooring Xtra’s crew stood around with a special morning delivery because nobody had finished their plywood subfloor prep, putting next week’s stairwell installs in real doubt, while Chantel and Wyatt used their own morning away from the charity house to blue-tape every paver, plant and off-cut in Bunnings under House 2’s name, on the theory that if you can’t win the week outright, you can at least corner the market on mulch.
One team’s on a boat, one team’s not speaking to itself, and there’s still a rumpus room and a laundry to actually build. Back tomorrow for whatever’s left of the fallout.
