Applications for The Block 2027 are now open, and the process is a lot less mysterious than reality TV likes to pretend. Here is exactly how to apply, what you will need, and what nobody has told us yet.

How to apply for The Block 2027: the steps

1. Find your partner. Teams are pairs. The casting page describes them as couples, and recent seasons have also cast siblings, parents and kids, and close friends. Previous renovation experience is welcomed but not required from both partners.
2. Go to the official casting page. Applications run through MyCastingNet, not Nine’s main site: go.mycastingnet.com/Apply/Show/TheBlock2027. Ignore anyone charging a fee to fast track you.
3. Create a login. The form saves as you go, so you can leave and come back. The page itself warns that the application will take a while.
4. Complete every section, including the video. The casting page says applications without all elements, video included, will not be reviewed. Show your chemistry (or your tension, producers are not fussy).
5. Submit, then wait. Only a fraction of teams get a callback. In past seasons that has meant interviews, screen tests, and finance and background checks for shortlisted pairs. Nine has not published this season’s timeline.

The dates and the fine print

• Filming: a 12 week shoot from February 2027. Exact dates are to be confirmed.
• Work: you cannot work during filming, so clear your diary.
• Pay: the casting page says successful teams receive a nominal weekly fee to cover basic living costs and expenses. It is not a wage.
• Where you can live: submissions are accepted Australia wide.
• Location: the casting page still lists it as to be confirmed, but Nine has since named Sunbury. See our Sunbury explainer.
• Closing date, age limit and residency rules: not stated on the official page. Third party sites list 18 or over and citizens or permanent residents, but treat that as unverified and check the form.

Who to contact if the application will not work

What producers are actually looking for

A telegenic pair with chemistry, a story, and enough skill to not set the fireplace on fire. Renovation experience helps, but plenty of teams have learned to use a level on national television. Be specific in your video: what you would do with the money, what you are hopeless at, and why you two will still be talking to each other in week nine.
